A grand baby was on the way!
What is your current occupation? If you are retired, what was your past career?
I sold medical equipment and software to hospitals for GE.
What are three of your favorite hobbies?
Yoga, family time, and cooking.
What is your most memorable moment in volunteering with HCL?
I was working with a patient with severe Alzheimer’s and finally figured out what could give her a little joy. Watching YouTube videos of babies and puppies! She was actually laughing for the first time in months.
Who is your most memorable patient?
Dottie.
What have you learned in your experience volunteering with hospice?
Don’t be afraid to talk about a loved one that has died, people love to reminisce.
What inspired you to volunteer with HCL?
Hospice helped my family and me so much the last few weeks of my late husband’s death.
Do you volunteer with other nonprofits in the area?
No, but I babysit grandkids!
What is your happiest or most rewarding volunteering story?
When I was saying goodbye to a patient she said in a sweet, weak voice, “I will miss you.”
What is your favorite part of volunteering with hospice?
Everything.
How does HCL’s mission inspire you?
I want to help them because they are all amazing.
What skills make you a better volunteer?
I appreciate every day and want to give a little back.
What do you wish people knew about HCL?
I will people would call sooner – you have no idea how much they can help.
How has being a hospice volunteer changed your outlook on life?
I appreciate every moment even more.
What is your most irrational fear?
Driving over certain bridges.
What age would you choose to be permanently? Why?
Now. I love my life.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I would stop wars because they are awful.
What is something you would never do again?
Move back north.
Would you rather live a week in the past or in the future?
Maybe the past – I would relive the birth of my children.
What is something you wish you could’ve told yourself ten years ago?
That I wouldn’t have to work forever and I would be healthy enough to enjoy every day.
What do you think you will want to tell yourself ten years from now?
No matter what, I have had a wonderful, loving life.
What would you want your last words to be?
“I love you,” and I would tell my kids to stay close to each other.
